What is two-factor authentication and why is it important?
Two-factor authentication (2FA) is a security tool that requires two forms of proof before letting you into your account — your password plus a code from your phone. Even if someone steals your password, they can't log in without your phone.
Two-factor authentication adds an extra security layer to your accounts. The first factor is your password. The second factor is something only you have — a code from an app on your phone, or a code texted to your phone number. To log in, you enter your password, then you enter the code from your phone. This makes it much harder for hackers to break into your account, even if they get your password. Banks and important services use 2FA to keep your accounts safe.
