What is fitness tracking and how does it work?

Fitness tracking means your phone or smartwatch measures how active you are all day. It counts your steps, monitors your heart rate, tracks calories burned, and records your sleep—all automatically without you doing anything special.

Your phone or smartwatch has tiny sensors inside that feel every movement you make. These sensors count steps, measure how hard your heart is working, and detect when you're sleeping. Your device collects all this data throughout the day and shows you a summary—how many steps you took, how many calories you burned, and how well you slept. The more you move, the higher your numbers go.
