App update stuck or won't install
A stuck app update is caused by insufficient storage on your device or a connection problem during the download. Free up storage, restart your device from the mains, and try the update again. On smart TVs, a mains restart is required before retrying.
App update failures on streaming devices happen for two main reasons: your device does not have enough free storage to download and install the update, or the download was interrupted by a network issue. On Fire Stick, Netflix updates can be 50-150MB — if only 100-200MB of storage remains free, the update fails. On Android devices, app updates require temporary additional space during installation. Smart TVs with integrated app stores need a mains restart to clear a stuck update.

- Repeatedly tapping the update button without restarting — this does not clear a stalled download state
- Clearing cache on the streaming app but not on the app store itself when the store is the stalled component
Signs you need professional help
- Update completes but the app still shows as outdated
- Clearing cache and restarting has not resolved the stuck update after multiple attempts
