People can't hear you in Zoom or your audio isn't working
Zoom audio problems are caused by Zoom not having permission to use your microphone, your audio device being set to the wrong one, or Zoom using an outdated version. Start by joining the call and clicking Unmute in Zoom — if the microphone icon stays muted, go to Zoom settings and check that the right microphone is selected.
Zoom needs permission to access your microphone and speakers, and it needs to be set to the right devices. If you've denied permission before, Zoom is blocked from using audio. We'll check Zoom settings first, make sure permissions are granted, and then update Zoom if needed.
Fix-IT-Bot will walk you through each step — just tap, no typing needed.
Skip — I just want a technicianCommon mistakes to avoid
- Forgetting that you're still muted from the last call — Zoom stays muted when you join new meetings
- Clicking Deny when Zoom asks for permission and then forgetting about it — check Privacy settings
- Using a USB headset and not realizing Zoom is trying to use the built-in microphone instead
- Thinking the problem is Zoom when it's actually your Windows microphone settings
Signs you need professional help
- You've checked Zoom settings, updated Zoom, and granted permissions, but the audio test still fails — the issue is with your microphone or Windows settings
- Some people can hear you and some can't — there can be an echo or quality problem that needs deeper diagnosis
- You're in a call, unmuted, and people still say they can't hear you — ask us to check for echo or mic feedback loops
