Microsoft Teams status stuck on Away even though you're at your computer
Teams gets stuck on Away when your computer is idle for a while or Teams loses connection to the server. Change your status manually to Available first. If it keeps switching back, sign out of Teams and sign back in. This reconnects your presence to the server and fixes it.
Teams tracks whether you're actively using your computer and sets your status to Away if you're idle for more than 5 minutes. Sometimes Teams gets out of sync with what's actually happening and keeps you stuck on Away even when you're working. The fix is to manually set your status to Available and, if that doesn't stick, sign out and back in to re-sync Teams with the server.

Skip — I just want a technicianCommon mistakes to avoid
- Thinking you need to stay actively typing in Teams to keep your status on Available. Any computer activity counts
- Signing out of your Microsoft account instead of just Teams. This is overkill and won't help
- Setting your status to Do Not Disturb and forgetting about it. Colleagues will think you're busy
Signs you need professional help
