Your voice assistant says it can't find or control your smart devices
A voice assistant that can't find your devices means the devices aren't linked to the voice assistant's account, or they're not set up in the voice assistant's app. Open the voice assistant's app on your phone, go to Devices or Add Device, and add your smart devices to it. Once they're added, say your computer name to control it and the voice assistant will recognize it.
Voice assistants like Alexa, Google Home, and Siri control devices by finding them in a linked account. If the voice assistant says it can't find your device, your computer either isn't added to the voice assistant's app at all, or the app that created your computer isn't linked to your voice assistant's account. We'll check if your devices are added to the voice assistant's app, and if the app that controls them is linked. Once they're all connected, voice control will work immediately.

Skip — I just want a technicianCommon mistakes to avoid
- Not realizing the voice assistant is a different app from your computer app — they need to be linked together, not just opened on the same phone
- Using complex device names with numbers and underscores and wondering why the voice assistant doesn't understand them — use simple names like 'lamp'
- Assuming the voice assistant is broken when your computer just isn't added to it yet
Signs you need professional help
- your computer is in the voice assistant app but it says Offline and won't come back online
- your computer app doesn't have an option to link to or connect with your voice assistant
- The voice assistant finds your computer but gives an error when you try to control it
