Security camera SD card is full and not overwriting old footage

Loop recording should be on so old files delete automatically when the card fills up. But it is turned off, or the SD card is full from videos before you bought the camera. Turn on loop recording first. If it's already on, back up any important footage, format the SD card completely, and the camera will start fresh with automatic overwriting.

Your security camera records videos to an SD card. When the card fills up, it should delete the oldest files and keep recording new ones. That's called loop recording. If this isn't happening, loop recording is turned off, or the card has too many old files. Turn on loop recording first and set a good resolution to save space.

⚡ Before you start
  • Check whether loop recording is turned on in the camera's settings. It is called Cycle recording, Overwrite, or Auto-delete
  • Check how much free space is on the SD card. Go into the app and look at Storage or Status
  • Check the resolution the camera is recording at. High resolution (1080p or 4K) fills the card much faster than lower resolution
  • Check whether the camera has important footage from before the card filled up that you need to back up before formatting
