Smart lock not auto-locking when you leave the house
Geofencing. The feature that locks the door when you leave. Has either been turned off in the app settings or your phone's location permission is disabled. Open the lock app, go to Settings or Home Automation, and turn on geofencing. If that's already on, check that the lock app has permission to access your phone's location.
Smart locks use location data from your phone to know when you're home and when you've left. When geofencing is turned off or your phone isn't sharing location with the lock app, the lock can't tell you're gone, so it doesn't lock itself. Manual lock and unlock still work because those don't need location data. Turning geofencing back on and making sure the app has location permission fixes this immediately.

Skip — I just want a technicianCommon mistakes to avoid
- Granting location permission to the app but leaving geofencing switched off in the app settings. Both need to be on
- Creating a time-based rule instead of a location-based one. Automatic locking when you leave specifically needs geofencing
- Only granting location permission while using the app instead of Always. The lock app needs to check your location when it's not open
Signs you need professional help
- If the lock is connected and geofencing is on but it's taking more than 2 minutes to lock when you leave, or if the lock locks correctly but then unlocks itself immediately for no reason, get in touch and we'll sort it out.
