Zigbee smart home device won't pair with hub
Zigbee devices are picky about distance and timing. Put it within 5 feet of the hub, make sure pairing mode on the hub is actually active (not timed out), reset it with a factory reset if it's been powered before, and try the pairing process again from scratch.
Zigbee is a short-range wireless protocol that works best when devices are close together during pairing. The problem is that the hub's pairing window timed out, it is too far away, or it was previously paired with a different hub and needs a factory reset to clear that memory.
Fix-IT-Bot will walk you through each step — just tap, no typing needed.
Skip — I just want a technicianCommon mistakes to avoid
- Starting to pair and then walking away. pairing mode times out after a few minutes if nothing happens
- Trying to pair from across the house. Zigbee needs it right next to the hub during pairing
- Not pressing it's pairing button. some devices won't pair unless you hold down a button on it itself
Signs you need professional help
- If you've tried factory resetting it and restarting the hub but it still won't pair, it will have a hardware issue or be incompatible with your hub. Give us a call and we'll check what's going on.
