Your smart thermostat isn't turning on the heating
Your thermostat has lost power or WiFi connection and can't tell the furnace to turn on. Check that the thermostat is plugged in or has fresh batteries, and that it shows as online in the app. If it's offline, power it off and on again.
Smart thermostats control the furnace through WiFi and electricity. Without power, the thermostat can't work. Without WiFi, it can't talk to the app, but it should still turn on heat if set to heat mode. If the thermostat is powered and connected but the furnace still won't run, the thermostat can have lost its connection to the furnace itself or the furnace has a problem.

Skip — I just want a technicianCommon mistakes to avoid
- Setting the thermostat to 'Auto' instead of 'Heat' — Auto will switch between heating and cooling, and can not turn on heat if the app thinks it's the wrong season
- Assuming the furnace is working when the breaker has tripped — a tripped breaker is very common after power outages
- Not raising the target temperature high enough — the furnace only turns on if the target is higher than the current room temp
Signs you need professional help
- The thermostat has power, is set to heat, the furnace has power, but the furnace still won't turn on — you need a furnace technician
- The thermostat keeps losing WiFi connection even though you're right next to the router
- The furnace breaker keeps tripping no matter how many times you reset it
