You can't see your 5GHz WiFi network when you search for it
Your router can have 5GHz disabled in its settings, or it's broadcasting both bands as one network name. Check your router settings to turn 5GHz on and give it a separate network name so it shows up in your list.
Your router can broadcast WiFi on two different speeds: 2.4GHz (slower, longer range) and 5GHz (faster, shorter range). If you can't see the 5GHz network, it's either turned off or hidden in your router settings. We'll turn it back on and make sure your devices can find it.
Fix-IT-Bot will walk you through each step — just tap, no typing needed.
Skip — I just want a technicianCommon mistakes to avoid
- Confusing the 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks — they have different speeds, not different areas of the house
- Changing the password without writing it down — you won't be able to connect if you forget it
- Not saving or applying changes in the router settings — the change won't take effect until you click 'Save' or 'Apply'
Signs you need professional help
- If you can't log into your router's settings page, or the 5GHz setting doesn't exist, give us a call
- If your device is very old and you can't find any 5GHz networks anywhere — it can not support 5GHz WiFi
