How to set up a VPN on your router

Not all routers support VPN. If yours does, log into the admin settings, go to VPN, and pick whether you want to run a VPN server (so you can access home from outside) or a VPN client (to hide your internet from your ISP). Your router manual will tell you which your model supports.

A VPN on your router protects all your devices at once — you set it up once instead of on every phone, computer, and tablet. There are two types: a VPN server lets you connect back to your home network from anywhere in the world, while a VPN client encrypts all your traffic so your ISP can't see what you're doing. Not all routers have VPN built in — check your manual first.
