Router auto-update is disabled — how to turn it on

Auto-update is a setting in your router's admin page. Turn it on and your router will download security patches automatically overnight. ISP hubs in the UK (BT, Sky, Virgin Media) update automatically by default.

Modern routers can update themselves automatically during low-traffic periods. This is the safest option because you don't have to remember to update manually. Most ISP hubs in the UK update automatically and you can't turn it off. Third-party routers like ASUS, TP-Link, and Netgear need auto-update enabled in settings.
