Webcam image is too dark even with the lights on
A dark webcam image is a lighting problem, not a camera problem. Face the light source instead of sitting with your back to it, or add a lamp in front of your desk. If the room is bright but the video is still dark, your call app's camera settings have the exposure or brightness turned down. Go to your app's video settings and turn brightness up all the way.
Webcams need light to capture clear video. If you're sitting with a window or light source behind you, the camera exposes for the bright background and your face ends up dark. The fastest fix is to move the light source in front of you instead of behind you, or add a desk lamp pointing at your face. If light isn't the problem, your camera app's brightness setting is probably turned down.

Skip — I just want a technicianCommon mistakes to avoid
- Adding light directly behind the monitor instead of in front. This still creates backlight and won't help
- Using a very bright lamp right in front of the camera. This creates glare and harsh shadows instead of even lighting
- Thinking the camera itself is broken when it's really just a lighting or settings problem. Lighting fixes almost all dark video issues
