Your webcam image is too dark in video calls
Your webcam image is too dark because of bad lighting or because the camera is pointing the wrong way. First, add more light to your face — turn on a lamp or sit near a window. If that doesn't help, check the webcam app settings and turn up the brightness slider.
Webcams see what's in front of them — if you're sitting in dim light or with light behind you, you'll look very dark. The camera also has brightness and exposure settings that you can adjust. If the light in the room is fine but the image is still dark, the webcam's brightness setting is probably turned down too low.

Skip — I just want a technicianCommon mistakes to avoid
- Increasing brightness so much that the image looks washed out and pale — aim for a balanced middle ground where your face is visible but doesn't look unnaturally bright
- Sitting directly in front of a bright window thinking it will help, but the backlighting makes the camera adjust incorrectly — sit to the side of the window instead
- Adjusting only the app brightness and not the room lighting — lighting is the biggest factor. Always start by improving the room light first
Signs you need professional help
- You've added plenty of light to the room and turned up all the brightness settings, but the image is still very dark — the webcam sensor is failing
- The webcam works fine in bright rooms but becomes very dark in normal indoor lighting — give us a call to check if it needs a driver update
- The webcam suddenly became dark without any changes to your setup — we can check if there's a software issue
