Trackpad gestures stopped working on your laptop
Your trackpad gestures are turned off or need to be re-enabled in Settings. Go to your trackpad settings and turn the gestures back on. This takes 30 seconds and fixes it most of the time.
Trackpad gestures are special motions like two-finger scrolling and pinching that do different things than regular clicks and drags. When they stop working, it's because they've been disabled in Settings or the trackpad software got confused. The quickest fix is to go into Settings and turn them back on.
Fix-IT-Bot will walk you through each step — just tap, no typing needed.
Skip — I just want a technicianCommon mistakes to avoid
- Looking for gesture settings in the wrong place. On Mac they're in Trackpad settings, not Accessibility
- Not realizing that an external mouse being plugged in disables trackpad gestures. Unplugging the mouse fixes it immediately
- Restarting the laptop instead of just re-enabling gestures in Settings. The setting change takes effect right away without a restart
