Monitor goes black for a second then comes back

The monitor cable is loose or damaged. Unplug it from both ends and plug it back in firmly. If that doesn't work, try a different cable.

A loose or damaged video cable between your computer and monitor causes the signal to drop briefly, making the screen go black. When the cable reconnects momentarily, the image comes back. The cable connection can look fine but be damaged inside or just barely loose. Reseating the cable by unplugging and firmly reconnecting it solves this for most people.
