USB hub not powering or detecting connected devices
Your USB hub is not getting enough power or the port is disconnected from your computer. The fix is to unplug both sides, wait 10 seconds, and reconnect. If the hub has its own power cable, make sure that is plugged in too.
USB hubs need power in two ways: from your computer and, if it is a powered hub, from a wall outlet. If either is missing or loose, the hub will light up but nothing connected to it will work. We'll check both connections, restart the hub, and make sure your computer sees it.
Fix-IT-Bot will walk you through each step — just tap, no typing needed.
Skip — I just want a technicianCommon mistakes to avoid
- Plugging a powered hub into a USB port instead of a wall outlet - USB ports do not provide enough power for a powered hub to operate correctly
- Assuming the hub is broken when really just one port is faulty - try plugging devices into different ports on the same hub
Signs you need professional help
- If your hub has a light that turns on but no devices are ever detected, or if only one port on the hub works, give us a call and we can help you test the hub or find you a replacement.
