Your monitor says 'No Signal' when you plug it in
The cable between your monitor and computer has come loose or isn't plugged in all the way. Turn off your monitor, push the cable firmly into the port on the back of both the monitor and the computer until it clicks, turn the monitor back on, and you should see your screen. If that doesn't work, try a different cable.
When your monitor shows 'No Signal', it means no picture is coming from your computer. This is almost always because the cable connecting them isn't sitting properly in its port. Sometimes the cable itself is broken, or you're using the wrong type of cable for your monitor. We'll walk you through checking the connection, trying a different cable, and making sure Windows or macOS knows your monitor is there.
Fix-IT-Bot will walk you through each step — just tap, no typing needed.
Skip — I just want a technicianCommon mistakes to avoid
- Plugging into the wrong port — USB ports won't work for monitors, only HDMI, DisplayPort, USB-C, and older connectors like VGA will
- Assuming the monitor is broken when the cable is just loose — always push the cable in fully first
- Not actually turning off the computer before moving cables — this can damage the port, so always power down first
Signs you need professional help
- You've tried all the steps and the monitor still shows 'No Signal' — the cable is probably damaged or the port is broken
- The cable is loose immediately after you plug it in — the port is probably damaged and won't hold a connection
- You're getting picture on one monitor but not another — there's a setting in Windows or macOS we need to adjust
