Time Machine backup failing or not completing

Time Machine fails when the backup drive is full, disconnected, or the backup data is corrupted. Check that your backup drive has free space, reconnect it, restart Time Machine, and confirm the drive format.

Time Machine backups need sufficient disk space (backup drive should be 2-3 times larger than your Mac data), a compatible format, and a stable connection. Failed backups come from a full drive, corrupted backup data, or connection interruptions. Deleting old backups and restarting Time Machine fixes most failures.
