Locked out of Mac because of FileVault encryption

If you remember your password, reset it using your Apple ID from the login screen. If you forgot it, you will need your recovery key that was created when FileVault was turned on. If you do not have the recovery key, a technician will need to help you regain access.

FileVault is encryption that protects your data if your Mac is stolen. It asks for a password before your Mac boots up. If you forgot or lost the password, the Mac is locked and cannot be accessed without the recovery key or a reset through your Apple ID. We will try to reset your password first, then check for a recovery key.
