App can't be opened because the developer can't be verified

This is macOS protecting you from unsigned software. It's not a sign the app is dangerous if you downloaded it from a trusted source. The fix is just a couple of clicks in System Settings. If the app is from a company you trust, go to System Settings → Security & Privacy and click 'Open Anyway' next to the app name.

macOS has a security feature called Gatekeeper that checks whether apps come from trusted developers before letting you run them. If an app isn't officially signed or the developer isn't in Apple's database, macOS blocks it. This is a safety feature, but if you downloaded the app from a trusted website, it's safe to override the warning and open it.
