USB-C port on Mac not recognizing devices you plug in
The USB-C port isn't recognizing your device because the connector is dirty, the cable or adapter is faulty, or the port itself has stopped working. Unplug your device, clean out the port with compressed air, wipe the cable connector, and plug it back in firmly. This fixes it for most people.
USB-C ports have tiny pins inside that make contact with the cable connector. When dust, lint, or debris blocks those pins, your Mac can't detect what's plugged in. The fastest fix is to clean the port and connector thoroughly. If that doesn't work, you have a faulty cable, adapter, or a port that needs repair.

- Not cleaning the cable connector because it looks fine. Dirt and lint are small but block the connection
- Forcing a cable into a port or wiggling it side to side. This bends the connector and damages both
