Screen recording on iPhone captures video but no system audio
Make sure microphone recording is turned on when you start screen recording. Swipe down from the top right of your screen to open Control Center, long-press the screen recording button, and turn on Microphone Audio. If system sounds still don't record, your phone can be in Silent mode — flip the mute switch up and try again.
Screen recording has two audio options: Microphone Audio (your voice) and System Audio (sounds from your phone). Microphone Audio is on by default, but System Audio only records when your phone isn't in Silent mode. If you're recording but only getting silence, either Microphone Audio is turned off or your phone is muted.

- Not checking Silent mode — most people forget the mute switch even exists until recordings come out silent
- Turning off Microphone Audio when they actually need it on — the setting is confusing and people flip the wrong toggle
- Trying to record from apps that block audio like Spotify or YouTube, then thinking the feature is broken
Signs you need professional help
- You've turned off Silent mode, Microphone Audio is on, and screen recording still records no audio
- Recording is completely broken and won't start at all
