Screen recording button is greyed out on your iPhone
Someone has blocked screen recording through Screen Time settings. Go to Settings → Screen Time → Content & Privacy Restrictions → Apps and toggle Screen Recording back on. If you set up Screen Time yourself, just remove the restriction.
Screen recording is turned off by Screen Time restrictions, which are designed to protect kids and limit what people can do on a phone. Your iPhone is preventing screen recording because Screen Time is active. Turning off the restriction or disabling Screen Time entirely will fix it.
Fix-IT-Bot will walk you through each step — just tap, no typing needed.
Skip — I just want a technicianCommon mistakes to avoid
- Trying to enable screen recording in the wrong Settings app section — it's under Screen Time, not under General or Camera
- Not realizing that Screen Time restrictions apply to everyone on the phone, not just kids
- Thinking the button needs to be in Control Center before any restrictions can be removed — restrictions apply whether the button is visible or not
Signs you need professional help
- Screen Time is password-protected and you don't remember the passcode
- Someone else set up Screen Time on your phone and won't remove the restriction
- You've disabled Screen Time and the button is still greyed out — there can be a different restriction in place
