Cellular data toggle is greyed out and won't turn on
Airplane mode is probably on. Swipe down from the top right of your screen to open Control Center and look for an airplane icon. Tap it to turn off Airplane mode. Your Cellular Data toggle will turn back on immediately.
Cellular Data is automatically disabled when Airplane mode is on. This is a safety feature so you don't accidentally use data on a flight. When Airplane mode is on, the Cellular Data toggle gets greyed out to prevent you from turning it on. Turning off Airplane mode unlocks it.
Fix-IT-Bot will walk you through each step — just tap, no typing needed.
Skip — I just want a technicianCommon mistakes to avoid
- Not realizing Airplane mode automatically disables cellular data. It's a built-in safety feature, not a bug
- Restarting the phone without turning off Airplane mode first. Airplane mode stays on after a restart
- Resetting the entire iPhone when just resetting network settings would have fixed it
