AirDrop not receiving files on your iPhone
AirDrop needs both Bluetooth and WiFi turned on to work, even though it doesn't connect to a WiFi network. Open Control Center and make sure both are enabled. If that doesn't fix it, make sure AirDrop is set to receive from Everyone or Contacts, not just Nobody.
AirDrop uses Bluetooth to find nearby phones and WiFi to transfer files between them. If either Bluetooth or WiFi is off, AirDrop shuts down automatically. Your iPhone also has a setting that controls who can send you files — if it's set to Nobody, nobody can send anything. Turning on Bluetooth and WiFi and changing the AirDrop setting to Contacts or Everyone fixes it.

Skip — I just want a technicianCommon mistakes to avoid
- Turning on WiFi but forgetting to turn on Bluetooth — both need to be on
- Not realizing that AirDrop needs WiFi to be powered on but not connected to a network — just having WiFi enabled is enough
- Setting AirDrop to Contacts Only when the other person is not in your contacts — that's why you can't receive from them
Signs you need professional help
- Bluetooth and WiFi are both on and AirDrop is set to Everyone, but you still don't appear in other people's AirDrop lists
- You can receive from some people but not others — there can be a contact or settings issue
- AirDrop worked before but stopped working and nothing has changed on your phone
