What is two-factor authentication and why use it

Two-factor authentication, or 2FA, is when you need two different ways to prove you are who you say you are to log into an account. First you enter your password, then you enter a code from your phone or email. This stops hackers from getting into your account even if they steal your password.

Two-factor authentication is an extra security layer that requires two forms of proof before you can access an account. The first is something you know (your password) and the second is something you have (your phone or email). Even if a hacker gets your password, they cannot log in without the second factor. This is one of the best ways to protect important accounts.
