What to do right after you find out your data was in a breach

Don't panic. Being in a breach doesn't mean criminals have your money yet. Act right now: change your password, turn on two-factor authentication, check your credit report, and monitor your accounts for fraud. Do this today and you'll stop most attacks before they start.

Data breaches happen when hackers steal information from companies you use. The information is usernames, emails, and passwords. Not credit card numbers though sometimes that too. The key is to act fast: change your password so they can't get into your account, turn on two-factor authentication to add a second lock, and watch your credit for suspicious activity.
