What is a VPN and do you need one?

A VPN encrypts your data and hides your location from websites you visit. It's like mailing letters through a private tunnel instead of leaving them on the street. You don't need one at home, but it's useful on public WiFi if you're concerned about privacy.

A VPN (Virtual Private Network) adds a layer of privacy and security to your internet connection. It encrypts your data so it's scrambled and unreadable to others on the same WiFi, and it hides your location from websites. At home on your own WiFi you're already reasonably protected. But on public WiFi at coffee shops or airports, a VPN helps protect you from people trying to intercept your data.
