Game save data corrupted on console
A corrupted save file in most cases cannot be recovered, but you may be able to restore it from a backup copy if your console saves automatically to the cloud. If not, the save is lost and you will need to start over or check if the game developer can restore it. Before giving up, restart the console and try deleting and redownloading the save from the cloud backup.
Game save files get corrupted when the console crashes or loses power while saving, or when the storage drive develops a fault. Once corrupted, the game cannot read the file and you lose your progress. The best defense is cloud backup, which some consoles do automatically. If you have a backup, you can recover it. If not, the save is gone but the game will let you start fresh.

Skip — I just want a technicianCommon mistakes to avoid
- Assuming the save is gone forever without checking for a cloud backup first. Many consoles back up saves automatically
- Deleting the entire game instead of just the save file. You can always make a new save, but you have to redownload the game if you delete it
Signs you need professional help
- If you have checked for cloud backups, deleted and restored the corrupted save, and it still will not load, the console storage drive may be failing. Give us a call and we can run a storage health check on your console.
