Your security camera night vision isn't working
Your camera's night vision likely has dust, dirt, or condensation on the lens, or the infrared light has burned out. First, clean the camera lens very gently with a soft, dry cloth. If the picture is still black, the infrared light at the front of the camera can be dead and the camera will need replacement.
Night vision works by using an infrared light (a light you can't see) to illuminate the dark area, then showing you what the camera sees. If dust or dirt covers the lens, the infrared light can't do its job. If the infrared light itself burns out, the camera shows only blackness. Cleaning the lens is the first and fastest fix.

Skip — I just want a technicianCommon mistakes to avoid
- Using paper towels to clean the lens — paper towels scratch the lens and make things worse, use only soft cloth
- Cleaning the lens with harsh chemicals or rubbing alcohol — this damages the lens coating
- Assuming the camera is broken when it just has dust on the lens — always clean first
Signs you need professional help
- You've cleaned the lens and the camera still shows only a black picture at night
- The infrared light on the front of the camera is not glowing in dark conditions
- The camera won't turn on or show any power light at all
