Security camera recordings have no audio
Audio recording is turned off by default — you need to switch it on in your camera's app. Open your camera's app, go to Settings, and turn on audio or sound recording. If that's already on, the camera's microphone can not be working.
Your camera has a microphone built in but audio recording is not enabled by default for privacy reasons. When you turn it on, the camera captures sound during recordings. If you've turned it on and still have no audio, the microphone itself can be broken or there's a problem with the app connection to the camera.

Skip — I just want a technicianCommon mistakes to avoid
- Forgetting that audio recording is off by default — check the app settings first before assuming the microphone is broken
- Not realizing the phone needs to grant microphone permission to the app — even if the camera has a mic, your phone can be blocking it
- Not testing live video before concluding the microphone is broken — live video helps you tell if it's a recording setting or a hardware problem
Signs you need professional help
- Audio recording is on, app permission is granted, microphone is clear, but you still hear nothing
- Live video has no sound and recordings have no sound — the microphone likely failed
- Your camera is still under warranty and the microphone won't work
