Can't add an external guest to your Microsoft Teams team
You're probably not a team owner. Only owners can add external guests to teams. If you are an owner, your Microsoft 365 admin has turned off guest access in Teams settings. Ask your admin to enable guest access, or ask an owner to add the person for you.
Teams has strict rules about who can be added and who can do the adding. Only team owners can add anyone, and your admin has to turn on guest access for external people to join at all. If the Add Member button is greyed out, you don't have owner rights. If you're an owner but still can't add someone, guest access is turned off by your admin.

- Trying to add someone without being a team owner. You need owner rights or you have to ask an owner
- Typing just a name instead of an email address. Teams needs the full email to find external people
- Assuming one person can't be added means guest access is off. Sometimes specific people or domains are blocked
