Email quarantined by Microsoft Defender and you need to release it
Microsoft Defender has locked the email away as a precaution. It thinks something in it is unsafe. If you trust the sender and the email looks legitimate, ask your IT admin to release it from quarantine. They can do this in about 2 minutes from the Microsoft Defender admin centre.
Microsoft Defender automatically quarantines emails it thinks can contain malware, phishing links, or other threats. Sometimes it flags emails that are actually safe. Especially if they have attachments or come from outside your company. Your IT admin can review the email, confirm it's safe, and release it back to you.
Fix-IT-Bot will walk you through each step — just tap, no typing needed.
Skip — I just want a technicianCommon mistakes to avoid
- Thinking the email has been deleted. It's just locked, not gone
- Assuming it must be spam or a phishing attack. Sometimes legitimate emails get flagged because of how they're formatted
- Not telling your admin the sender or subject. They need this information to find it in the quarantine log
Signs you need professional help
- If your admin has released the email but it still hasn't arrived after 30 minutes, multiple emails from the same sender keep getting blocked and you know they're legitimate, or you keep getting quarantine notices for emails you're expecting, get in touch and we'll investigate whether Defender is being too aggressive.
