Your phone isn't making sound for notifications or calls
Your notifications are muted. This is because Silent mode is on, or Do Not Disturb is turned on, or your notification volume is turned all the way down. Check the physical mute switch on the side first, then check your settings.
Android treats different sounds separately — you can have music playing at full volume while notification sounds are completely muted. Your phone can also have Silent mode (a physical switch on the side) or Do Not Disturb mode in your settings that turns everything off. One of these is probably what's muting your notifications.
