Contactless payment not working on Android
Contactless payments need three things: NFC turned on, a verified card in Google Pay, and a compatible terminal. Start by checking if NFC is enabled in Settings, then check your card is set up in Google Pay.
Contactless payment fails for a few predictable reasons: NFC is disabled, your card isn't properly set up in Google Pay, the card isn't verified with your bank, or the terminal doesn't support NFC. Enabling NFC, verifying your card, and testing at a different terminal fixes it quickly. Not all payment terminals support NFC, even though they look modern.

Skip — I just want a technicianCommon mistakes to avoid
- Thinking NFC is on when it's actually off — always check Settings to confirm the toggle is blue
- Not realizing your card needs to be verified with your bank — unverified cards get declined
- Blaming your phone when the terminal just doesn't support NFC — most payment terminals still use chip readers
Signs you need professional help
- NFC is enabled, your card is verified, but payment fails at multiple different stores
- You see a message that your card is locked or over limit — contact your bank
