Your Android screen won't rotate when you turn the phone sideways
Rotation Lock is on in Quick Settings. Swipe down from the top and look for a lock icon on a device shape. Tap it to turn it off.
Screen rotation has three parts: a hardware sensor that detects when you turn the phone, a software setting that allows rotation, and each app's ability to support landscape mode. When rotation fails, one of these isn't working. Rotation Lock is the number one cause. We'll check that first, then check the Display settings.

- Not realizing Rotation Lock exists in Quick Settings (it's hidden and easy to miss)
- Thinking the app is broken when it just doesn't support landscape mode
- Rotating the phone too quickly—give your phone a second to notice the rotation
- Not checking both Rotation Lock and Auto-rotate (both affect rotation independently)
Signs you need professional help
- You've turned off Rotation Lock and enabled Auto-rotate but rotation still doesn't work
- An accelerometer test shows the sensor isn't moving when you rotate the phone
- Your phone started rotating on its own without being touched (sensor malfunction)
